Active works on the project on constructing a dry type storage facility for spent nuclear fuel (ISF-2) are underway at Chernobyl NPP site

The following works have been implemented during the previous two weeks of September at ISF-2 construction site:

Building of an Installation for Spent Fuel Preparation for Storage (ISFPS):

- dismantling of an old roof kicker (buildup) for floor level leveling;
- starting finishing works in premises;
- installation of foundations for equipment;
- installation of buildup walls;
- installation of slabs in a buildup and in an annex structure of a controlled tanks’ building;
- installation of sumps, ramps, a stoop of the controlled tanks’ building annex;
- assembling of metal structures of a shed of the controlled tanks’ building annex.

Check Point building:

- repair and interior finishing of premises.

 Concrete storage modules (CSM):

- installation of a top coating (painting) of modules;
- installation of a finishing layer of protective covering roof of the modules.
Installation of the finishing layer of protective covering roof of the modules is completed in axes 313-322, stage 3.1.

Physical protection system (PPS):

- electric power supply of equipment – installation of cable manholes, laying of cable duct system pipes;
- laying of operating and reserved network (in pipes, in a trench) of security lighting of the site perimeter;
- installation of cable manholes and alarm system, fire notification system;
- installation and connection of light posts, lamps – the installation near the PPS is completed;
- reconstruction of fencing (installation of new posts) of the perimeter;
- assembling and installation of a traveling gantry crane of the site for reloading of double-walled shielding canisters DWSC (mechanical part) is completed;
- works on electrical part has been commenced.

Installation of foundation for DWSC reloading site is in progress.
Programs of process units and systems testing are under development.

HOLTEC is a General Contractor of the project. Subcontracting organizations (CPI, UTEM, UTB, ZEM, EPI, BEM, Promkomplekt, UTEM-KRANSERVICE) that have been involved by the HOLTEC are performing works at the site. 314 persons are engaged in the works in total. 15 units of excavation and lifting equipment have been also used for implementing the tasks at the site.
