On 24-25 November, the ChNPP was visited by experts of Belgoprocess (Belgium).
The visit purpose was to carry out another regular training workshop for ChNPP specialists on learning experience of Belgoprocess in the field of RAW management: i.e. techniques for waste incineration, off-gas cleaning, drying, spent resins treatment, etc., as well as using this experience to optimize the process of RAW management at ChNPP. Besides, the progress of joint work 2020-2021 was summarized and plans for the next year were evolved.
The Belgian experts visited the Industrial Complex for Solid RAW Management (ICSRM) which is one of the key facilities for RAW management at the ChNPP site.
According to Jurgen Hansen, International Business Development Manager of Belgoprocess, CILVA complex is in operation for many years at their site, and it is very similar to the ICSRM. Thus, Belgoprocess and Chornobyl NPP have many similar processes, technologies, and at the same time challenges to be discussed and share practices for their addressing.
“In the future we are planning continuation of our cooperation on thermal technologies for treatment of radioactive waste. Now ChNPP is starting operation of the incinerator so we would be glad to share our knowledge and welcome your technical specialists as a part of our bilateral agreement at similar installations in Belgium and in other countries, and at sites of other waste processing installations as well.
We are interested in continuation of the cooperation with ChNPP and hope for further support from the Government of Belgium”, — sharing his hopes for the future Mr. Hansen.
Deputy Technical Director (for RAW Management) Oleksandr Skomarokhov noted that for ChNPP such cooperation with Belgoprocess is crucial considering the commissioning of ICSRM. “On our way we are facing challenges which can be successfully addressed owing to the experience available at the Belgian company”, — said Mr. Skomarokhov.
We remind you that cooperation of ChNPP and Belgoprocess commenced in 2016 under the support of the Government of Belgium.
As a part of the Memorandum on Technical Cooperation between ChNPP and Belgoprocess, in addition to joint works on radioactive waste processing issues, there was several joint quality management projects which resulted in:
• Analysis of the best world practices and obtaining of recommendations for risk management methods and risk management implementation procedures (2016);
• Development of the risk analysis program for radioactive waste management on ChNPP site (2017);
• Obtaining of recommendations for a self-assessment management methodology (2018);
• Analysis and recommendations for the efficiency of ChNPP information security system (2019).
