Power Unit No.3 was finally shutdown on December 15, 2000, pursuant to the Decree of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Power Unit No.3 ahead of schedule shutdown and Chernobyl NPP final closure”.

At the present day Unit No.3 reactor facility are brought to “finally shutdown” state. Status of Power Unit No.3 was changed on December 2013 by the decision agreed upon with the State Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Ukraine. It was acknowledged as the facility for radioactive waste management.
