IAEA mission was held at Chernobyl NPP

IAEA expert mission "Reuse and changing the purpose of the emptied facilities for the decommissioning needs" was held in November 16 - 18 at ChNPP Training Center in Slavutich town.

The main purpose of the mission was sharing of experience and study of the best international practices in reuse of nuclear sites for other purposes. Chernobyl NPP’s specialists presented ChNPP approaches and plans for reuse of site area and repurposing of the existing buildings and structures for industrial development in the field of radioactively contaminated material, Radioactive Waste and Spent Nuclear Fuel Management.

 

The mission was attended by representatives of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, representatives of ChNPP technical and economical departments.

IAEA experts presented international experience in repurposing of the emptied installations for the decommissioning needs, in particular, experience of Canada and Slovakia has been presented.

During the mission IAEA expert group provided their proposals and recommendations regarding ChNPP plans. The expert’s proposals and recommendations will serve as a basis for optimization of ChNPP site Industrial Development and its Integration within Nuclear complex of Ukraine.
