The Ukrainian delegation successfully completed a working visit to the USA. During this visit the Ukrainians attended the Annual International Radioactive Waste Management Conference (WM-2025). Within individual sessions dedicated to Ukraine, the delegation presented a detailed overview of the aftermath caused by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, in particular the occupation of Exclusion Zone enterprises in 2022 and of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Chornobyl NPP was represented by Oleksii Miasnykov, Head of the Integrated Radioactive Materials Management Department, who replied comprehensively the attendees' questions about the situation at Chornobyl NPP. Special focus was given to the problems resulted from the temporary occupation and further threats to the safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine.
In addition to the conference, the Ukrainian delegation visited the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, one of the largest nuclear power plants in the United States. During the technical tour, our experts learned the US experience in the area of radioactive waste management and nuclear facility safety. The acquired knowledge and experience will contribute to improving the approaches to radioactive waste management in Ukraine and strengthening the security in the face of ongoing aggression by Russia.
