    Restoration of the New Safe Confinement Discussed in Thessaloniki

    On 15–16 June 2026, the international workshop “Restoration of the New Safe Confinement: Technical, Regulatory and Cooperation Perspectives” was held in Thessaloniki, Greece. The event was organized under the Norwegian–Ukrainian Regulatory Cooperation Programme (RCP) between nuclear and radiation safety authorities.

    The workshop brought together representatives of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU), the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA), the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS), the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP), the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), as well as international experts and representatives of organizations involved in supporting projects at the Chornobyl NPP site.

    EU and EBRD Representatives Visit the Exclusion Zone, Chornobyl NPP, and CSFSF to Review the Consequences of Russian Attacks on Nuclear Infrastructure Facilities

    On 12 June, facilities within the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone were visited by a representative delegation from the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

    The visit took place within the framework of the International Chornobyl Cooperation Account (ICCA), which brings together international partners in supporting projects aimed at ensuring nuclear and radiation safety at the site of the State Specialized Enterprise Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (Chornobyl NPP).

    Norway to Provide NOK 100 Million for Restoration of the New Safe Confinement Following Damage Caused by a Russian Drone Strike in February 2025

    During a visit to Kyiv, State Secretary for Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway Eivind Vad Petersson announced an allocation of NOK 100 million (approximately EUR 9.1 million) for the restoration of the New Safe Confinement (NSC), which covers the destroyed Unit 4 of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the Shelter Object.

    The NSC Arch was damaged as a result of a Russian drone strike in February 2025. According to preliminary estimates by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the restoration works may cost approximately EUR 500 million.

    Address by the Director General of the Chornobyl NPP State Specialized Enterprise on the 25th Anniversary of the Enterprise

    Dear Colleagues,

    Twenty-five years ago, the State Specialised Enterprise “Chornobyl NPP” was established on the basis of a separate division of the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom”, by separating it from that company and placing it under the authority of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Affairs of Population Protection from the Consequences of the Chornobyl Catastrophe.

    Participants of the 4th International Summit of Cities and Regions Visit the Chornobyl NPP and the Exclusion Zone

    Participants of the 4th International Summit of Cities and Regions “Partnership. Resilience. Readiness” visited the Chornobyl NPP and the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone on 25 May 2026. More than 180 participants took part in the visit, including officials of the Kyiv Regional State Administration headed by Governor Mykola Kalashnyk, representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine, as well as numerous international delegations.
