The State Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Ukraine issued to the SSE ChNPP a separate authorization for operation of ChNPP II Generation New Ventilation Stack (NVS).

According to this document the SSE ChNPP is allowed to operate the New Ventilation Stack and associated systems of the ChNPP II Generation provided that the strict control over the state of the NVS building structures is performed in accordance with the Regulations.

For your reference: The Contract on construction of the New Ventilation Stack and associated systems of the Chernobyl NPP II Generation was signed on July 15, 2010, with the Russian-Ukrainian Consortium “Ukrytiye”(CJSC “Atomstroyexport”, Russia, and CJSC “Ukrenergomontazh”, Ukraine), as with the winners of the competitive tender carried out by the EBRD. The Project is included into the International Technical Assistance Program of Shelter Object Transformation into an Ecologically Safe System (SIP) financed at the expense of the Chernobyl Shelter Fund administrated by the EBRD.

The NVS represents a metal tower 50 m in height (125 m from ground level) with a gas vent pipe 6 m in diameter located inside it. It was installed at the existing reinforced-concrete structures of the Chernobyl NPP II Generation main building and equipped with the radiation monitoring system and light fencing system. The NVS is commissioned instead of the existing Ventilation Stack (VS-2) to be dismantled in the nearest time.
