Activity on installation of an abrasive blasting metal decontamination facility was started in ChNPP Turbine Hall.

In fact, the facility is a complex of specialized equipment designed to clean the surfaces of the dismantled equipment with a jet of compressed air and steel shot. During decontamination air and steel blasting shot will be supplied to the contaminated surface under high pressure.

This complex will be used for decontamination of the dismantled equipment and steel structures, which can be reused for repair and construction works at ChNPP industrial site and at the Shelter object.

Commissioning of this facility will, first of all, allow for a step-by-step decreasing in radiation hazard level of the facilities located at ChNPP industrial site and Shelter object site, as well as the dose loading for the personnel during ChNPP decommissioning activities performance. Besides, due to the facility operation, it is expected to reduce the volume of radioactive waste generated in the process of ChNPP decommissioning, and, accordingly, decrease the Waste Management costs (storage, processing, disposal).

This facility was procured in December 2019 within the framework of an infrastructure creation at ChNPP for radioactively contaminated equipment management.

Installation works are performed by the Decommissioning Shop personnel under supervision of the specialists from Pavalex-Ukraine LLC. Installation and commissioning of the facility is scheduled for completion in April this year.
