A Ukrainian delegation led by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Valerii Voshchevskii for the Assembly of Chornobyl Shelter Fund donor countries in London agreed to continue financing of the New Safe Confinement at the Chernobyl NPP with donor countries. Valerii Voshchevskii announced today at a briefing at the Government House.
This was reached on the outcomes of the meetings of the Assembly of Chornobyl Shelter Fund donor countries and the Assembly of the Contributors of the Nuclear Safety Account, held on 16 July 2015 in London.
However, according to Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Valerii Voshchevskii, to actually finish a huge project for the construction of the new safe confinement at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant it is necessary to raise about EUR 30 million.
"Construction of the first complex of the new safe confinement is due to be finalized in November of 2017 and the entire work should finally be completed under the approved project decisions to ensure the demolition of the existing unstable structures by 2023," explained Valerii Voshchevskii.
It should be noted that the State Budget of Ukraine for 2015 envisages funds worth UAH 601.8 mln. These are primarily intended for the project "Reconstruction of ChNPP Stage II Main Building (Power Units No. 3, 4) with Reinforcement and Sealing of Building Structures which Perform NSC Enclosing Perimeter Functions".
