On April 23, awarding of the veterans-participants of Chernobyl accident consequences mitigation took place in Slavutych. On the eve of those tragic events, Mykola Tomenko, ex-Head of the Committee came to present appreciation certificates of the Committee of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Environmental Policy, Natural Resource Management and Mitigation of Chernobyl Accident Consequences.
“It would be ethic and morally correct to honor the people who participated in mitigating the accident consequences in spring 1986, who ones of the first struggled against upset atom”, Mykola Tomenko said, presenting the appreciation certificates of the Committee of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The following people were awarded with these certificates: Mykola Annenkov, shift head of Chemical Shop; Yurii Volkov, inspection engineer of turbine equipment; Vasyl Humin, machinist of pump facilities; Valerii Dmytriiev, engineer of Nuclear Safety Department; Andrii Zinenko, head of Electrical Shop; Oleksandr Zabirchienko, foreman of Electrical Shop; Valentyn Ivanov, engineer of Production and Technical Department; Viacheslav Kamendrovskyi, operator of central hall of Reactor Shop; Klavdiia Katina, laboratory assistant of Chemical Shop; Vasyl Kirniev, group 5 operator of central hall of Reactor Shop; Borys Kovaliov, mill operator of Centralized Repair Shop; Anatolii Koziura, electric welder of Underground Heat Supply Lines Shop; Valentyna Kurlaieva, painter of Repair and Construction Shop; Anatolii Kurunov and Valerii Marusiev, senior foremen of Radiation Safety Shop; Mykola Nechyporenko, duty electrical fitter of Electrical Shop; Volodymyr Suietinov, engineer of Electrical Shop; Petro Fedorenko, driver of Motor Transport Unit; Mykola Fomenok, foreman of Thermal Instrumentation and Control Shop; Oleksii Shevchenko, fitter of Centralized Repair Shop (all positions as on 1986). On behalf of awarded people, Oleksandr Zabirchienko presented to Mykola Tomenko a photo collage and expressed the words of support and appreciation.
As Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Mykola Tomenko handed over the small sets of sports equipment for each Slavutych schools, and 17 books about studying of Ukrainian Constitution history for schools’ libraries, 4 books of which belong to contemporary history of our State.
Yurii Fomichiev, the Mayor, in reply to this, on behalf of all Slavutych citizens, thanked Mykola Tomenko for all things he did and is doing for Slavutych, for Chernobyl people, Chernobyl NPP and Exclusion Zone.
