On February 18, the Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Roman Abramovskyi officially visited Chornobyl NPP and introduced the Acting Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management Kateryna Pavlova.

Introducing new Chairman, Roman Abramovskyi held a meeting with managers of the enterprises belonging to the management field of the Agency, emphasized tasks and strategic areas of activity.

Moreover, during visiting the industrial site of Chornobyl NPP, the Deputy Minister inspected a new container wagon Skoda to be used for transferring spent nuclear fuel from old wet-type storage facility (ISF-1) to new dry-type interim storage facility for spent nuclear fuel (ISF-2).

ChNPP plans to initiate this process in March this year during “hot testing” of ISF-2. The “hot testing” envisages the transfer of 186 spent fuel assemblies to new storage facility which after processing will be disposed into concrete storage modules.

Also, the Deputy Minister together with the Chairman of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine Mr. Plachkov and the Acting Chairman of the SAUEZM Mrs. Pavlova accompanied by the Acting Director General Mr. Kalashnyk visited the New Safe Confinement and the space under the Arch.

The final point of the visit was a survey of above-mentioned storage facility for spent nuclear fuel (ISF-2) having a certificate of construction completion.
