    On 27-28 April, Slavutych hosts the online International Conference on Nuclear Decommissioning and Environmental Recovery INUDECO 2023.

    This year’s topic is “Nuclear Energy: the Challenges of War” – the urgent issue amid the full-scale war unleashed by russia against Ukraine.

    The conference was opened by ChNPP Technical Director Oleksandr Titarchuk: “Without a doubt, the year 2022 will join 1986 as one of the most tragic in the history of the Chornobyl NPP. The ChNPP occupation, which lasted for more than a month, led to material losses, destruction of logistical ways of ensuring the work of ChNPP, and social and psychological consequences for the staff. In extremely difficult conditions, held at gunpoint of armed russian soldiers, the ChNPP personnel worked the longest shift in their lives - 600 hours instead of 12.

    Thanks to the heroism and professionalism of the personnel, it was possible to maintain control over nuclear materials and radioactive waste, and to ensure the operation of safety-related systems," - he noted.

    This year the Chornobyl NPP presented 5 reports at the conference. In total, about 40 persons made presentations at the INUDECO 2023. The main subjects of the conference:
    • Nuclear generation in conditions of the post-war recovery;
    • Implementation of the Shelter transformation into an environmentally safe system;
    • Operation, maintenance and repair of NPPs in conditions of the martial law;
    • The current development and social challenges of atomograds (NPP-satellite towns).

    Among organizers of the event are the Executive Committee of Slavutych City Council, Regional Development Agency of Slavutych, SSE ChNPP and Institute for Safety Problems of NPPs.
