On June 13, ChNPP industrial site was visited by Eric Schmidt, an American businessman who is also known for being the CEO of Google from 2001 to 2011, and until 2020 - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alphabet Holding, which owns Google. In addition, Eric Schmidt has worked with the US Department of Defense on innovation, co-authored the book “How Google Works” and is the owner of the Schmidt Family Foundation.

The purpose of the visit of the delegation led by Mr Schmidt is to learn about the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster and the effects of the occupation of the Exclusion zone by Russian troops in February-March 2022.

At the industrial site, the guests visited the Main Building of ChNPP, where they visited the Control Rooms of units 1 and 4, the Central Control Room and the Central Hall of one of the power units. The programme also included a visit to the protective structure under the administrative building of the ChNPP, where captured soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine were held hostage during the occupation of the plant.

"The russian occupation troops left a mess and a wasteland behind. Their soldiers stole, damaged and destroyed equipment worth hundreds of thousands of hryvnias. Currently, ChNPP is trying to restore the pre-occupation state of affairs as much as possible, and we are actively looking for partners to speed up this process.

During the meeting with Mr Schmidt, he assured us that the Schmidt Family Foundation would be happy to support the Chornobyl plant in its restoration. We look forward to further active cooperation with this Foundation and are grateful for this offer", commented ChNPP Chief Engineer Oleksandr Titarchuk.

In addition to the industrial site of the plant, the delegation visited the cities of Chornobyl and Pripyat, the Duga radar station and the trenches dug by russians in the Red Forest.

According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, earlier, on September 11, Mr Schmidt met with the Head of the Office and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine in Kyiv.
