On 17 August, Mrs Rumina Velshi, President of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, visited ChNPP industrial site. The visit was accompanied by representatives of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is the body regulating the use of Nuclear Energy and Materials in Canada.

The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate the support and solidarity of the International Community, as well as to ascertain what challenges and requirements Ukraine needs immediate help to overcome.

"What I saw at the Chornobyl NPP definitely exceeded all expectations! The information that comes from the news or just from people cannot convey what is happening here. To see how enormous the challenge is for the enterprise and how quickly the staff was able to adapt to work after the occupation is impressive and inspires sincere admiration", Mrs Velshi commented on her visit.

During the visit to ChNPP site, the delegation was accompanied by Oleksandr Skomarokhov, Deputy Technical Director of the Plant. Together they visited the Dry-type Spent Fuel Storage Facility and the New Safe Confinement.

At the end of the visit, they had a conversation with ChNPP Chief Engineer Oleksandr Titarchuk. "ChNPP team is a part of the Ukrainian nation, striving for development and prosperity. Our main task now is to win, and we are extremely grateful to Canada and the entire International Community for the support they provide to Ukraine and ChNPP in particular in these difficult times of war", concluded Mr Titarchuk.
