From 17 to 19 April 2024, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) conducted an inspection survey of the State Specialised Enterprise Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

The purpose of the inspection survey was to verify the completeness and accuracy of the information contained in the documents attached to the application for amendments to the licence Nº OB 010950 for the right to implement the activity with use of ionising radiation sources (hereinafter referred to as IRS) in connection with the intention to extend the licence validity period.

The inspection was carried out by analysing documents, discussions with ChNPP management, employees of the structural units involved in the activity with use of radiation sources, direct inspection of the premises for the use of radiation sources and storage facilities.

Oleksandr Skomarokhov, Deputy Technical Director (for Radioactive Waste Management), summarised the inspection activity and said: “The inspection was related to the extension of the licence validity for the use of ionising radiation sources. In accordance with the established rules, the Chornobyl NPP prepared a licence package that included the necessary documents. The package was submitted to SNRIU. In some cases, the Inspectorate decides to conduct an inspection of the licensed facilities to ensure that the declared activities are carried out in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, norms, rules and standards.

Today, this inspection survey has been completed and the results of this work have been summarised. Yes, there are some comments from SNRIU. In the near future, we will eliminate the pointed out shortcomings, and the licence will be extended. Accordingly, I consider the work of the last few days as fruitful and the results as positive”.
