On May 16, Chornobyl NPP industrial site and Exclusion Zone were visited by a delegation consisting of Director General for International Order, the United Nations and Arms Control at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany Dr. Günter Sautter, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine H.E. Mr. Martin Jaeger, and accompanying team.
The aim of the delegation's visit to Ukraine is to discuss the issues of cooperation within the framework of international organizations’ activities, of preparation process for Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, and also to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Germany.
At Chornobyl NPP site, the visitors walked around the NPP office building, the spent nuclear fuel dry-type storage facility (ISF-2), and the NSC under-arch space; they were informed in details about the ChNPP current activities and the operation of its innovative facilities.
In addition, as part of their tour, the guests got acquainted with the activities of enterprises under supervision of State Agency on Exclusion Zone Management (SAUEZM), in particular, in Chornobyl town they visited the SSE "Ecocentre", the SSE CERWM transport shop, then they went to the central part and the river port of Prypiat town which was the place of NPP employees’ permanent residence prior to the 1986 disaster.
During his visit to Ukraine Mr. Gunter Sautter reassured Ukrainians of Germany's unwavering support to the sovereignty and inviolability of territory of Ukraine as well as emphasized the readiness of German Government to continue helping Ukraine in the military, economic and humanitarian areas.
