Last week, the Chornobyl NPP hosted a delegation of Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, as well as employees of diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine. The visit was aimed at familiarization of the diplomats with the current state and processes at ChNPP, as well as to emphasise the importance of international cooperation in the field of nuclear and radiation safety.
During the visit, the guests visited the Unit 3 control room, went to the Shelter object and visited NSC central control room, where they had the opportunity to learn about the technological solutions and safety measures, ensuring the stability of this structure. Special attention was paid to the viewing of the space under the NSC arch.
A special focus of the meeting was the discussion of the consequences of the temporary occupation of the ChNPP site in early 2022. Diplomats agreed on the seriousness of the threats with which the plant faced during the invasion of Russian troops and the importance of international monitoring and support to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Representatives of the diplomatic corps expressed their support and readiness to contribute to the further development of international initiatives in the nuclear safety field. This visit underscores the importance of the Chornobyl zone not only for Ukraine, but also for the global community, which is striving to achieve sustainable development and a safe future.
