Donors have pledged EUR 42.5 million to support restoration of the New Safe Confinement (NSC), which was damaged by a Russian combat drone attack in February 2025.
This was announced at the Assembly meeting of the International Chornobyl Cooperation Account (ICCA), held on 25 June 2025 at the EBRD Headquarters in London. The meeting focused on plans for emergency repairs of the NSC, as well as subsequent steps to fully restore its functionality.
The following countries and organisations announced their contributions:
- France – EUR 10.6 million;
- United Kingdom – EUR 6.9 million;
- European Commission – EUR 25 million.
These contributions are a crucial step toward ensuring the continuation of NSC restoration work. During the meeting, progress in surveying the NSC’s structural elements and preparatory activities carried out by the Chornobyl NPP was acknowledged.
The international support underscores the global community’s commitment to nuclear safety and security – not only for Ukraine, but for all of Europe.
