From 28 to 31 October 2025, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (Slovakia) hosted the IAEA National Workshop on the Basics of Cost Estimation for Nuclear Facilities Decommissioning. The event, organised by the Slovak Government with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), brought together experts to share their experience in using CERREX and AquilaCosting Software tools based on the International Structure for Decommissioning Costing (ISDC) methodology. The workshop focused on RBMK-type power reactors and related auxiliary facilities, which is particularly relevant for the Chornobyl NPP.

A delegation of four specialists from the Chornobyl NPP successfully participated in the event, which allowed them to gain experience in implementing the internationally recognised International Structure for Decommissioning Costing (ISDC), obtain information on the use of the main CERREX and AquilaCosting Software tools for preliminary cost estimation in the decommissioning process, determine their potential for use at the Chornobyl NPP, and provide their suggestions for the use of these tools at the Chornobyl NPP. This experience will contribute to the implementation of advanced international practices at the industrial site of the ChNPP, improve waste management efficiency and ensure the safe completion of the decommissioning process.

The Chornobyl NPP remains actively involved in international collaboration to promote nuclear safety and sustainable development.
