The State Specialised Enterprise Chornobyl NPP and the French company Framatome will strengthen their cooperation in the fields of nuclear safety, decommissioning, radioactive waste management, and long-term site management. One of the areas of joint work will focus on attracting international funding for the implementation of projects at the Chornobyl NPP.
This was discussed during a meeting between Chornobyl NPP Director General Serhii Tarakanov and Framatome Vice Presidents Ludovic Devos and Marion Horstmann, held on 4 November as part of the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris.
In particular, the parties exchanged information on their current activities and confirmed their shared interest in developing cooperation related to ongoing and future projects at the Chornobyl NPP site. In the near future, they will explore potential areas of technical collaboration and begin exchanging information on issues, needs, and planned projects at the Chornobyl NPP site. In addition, options for attracting international financing for the implementation of relevant projects at the plant will be considered.
«Framatome is a leading company in the world in the design and manufacture of equipment for nuclear power plants. Their experience and expertise can be extremely valuable to us. By the end of this year, we plan to prepare and sign a Memorandum of Understanding that will formalise the scope of our cooperation with Framatome», said Serhii Tarakanov, Director General of Chornobyl NPP.
Framatome is one of the world’s leaders in the development and manufacture of nuclear reactors, equipment for nuclear power plants, and decommissioning of NPPs. Among other services, the company provides operation, maintenance, and modernisation support for existing nuclear reactors. In addition, Framatome produces nuclear fuel for power plants around the world.
The company has long cooperated with Ukrainian nuclear power plants and was involved in the development of the initial design for the Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility (ISF-2) at the Chornobyl NPP.
