Today, on the 13th of February, members of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Chernobyl Aftermath Mitigation headed by the Committee’s Head, Ms. Irina Sekh, are at the Chernobyl NPP with an official visit. In addition to the Committee’s members, representatives of the SNRIU, Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, NNEGC “Energoatom”, Trade Union of Nuclear Power and Industry Workers of Ukraine (“Atomprofsoyuz”), EBRD and other organizations are taking part in the visit.

The Agenda includes visiting the Liquid Radioactive Waste Treatment and Solid Radioactive Waste Processing Plants, New Safe Confinement’s Erection Zone, Shelter Object’s Observation Pavilion, construction site of an Interim Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel.

After familiarization with the site, a meeting with the participation of the management of the State Agency on Exclusion Zone Management and SSE “Chernobyl NPP”, and Slavutich Mayor will be held. At this meeting the reports on a status of implementing tasks on the ChNPP decommissioning and Shelter Object transformation, implementing international projects, problematic issues of the Exclusion Zone, social protection of the ChNPP workers and Slavutich citizens will be listened to.

On February 13, 2013, the Commission headed by the Technical Director (-Chief Engineer), Andrey Bilyk, was established by the Order of the SSE “Chernobyl NPP” General Director, Igor Gramotkin, with the objective to investigate reasons of the partial collapse of the building structures of II Generation ChNPP Block “Г” Turbine Hall.

The Commission was entrusted with a task to analyze the situation resulted in the collapse of the building structures, as well as to provide proposals on mitigating the consequences within 14 days.
