On January 22, 2014, the IAEA expert mission started at Chernobyl NPP to review a design of technical specification for upgrading of RAW incineration facility of the Solid Radioactive Waste Processing Plant (SRPP).

Upgrading of incineration facility assumes the creation and inclusion of additional waxing unit into SRPP process flow to carry out technological operations relating to mixing a non-combustible product, resulted from RAW incineration, in the form of ash and cinders with a wax prior to its compaction.

On January 20, 2014, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Oleg Proskuryakov has conducted phone negotiations with the Director of Nuclear Safety Department of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Vince Novak.

Representative of Chernobyl Shelter Fund in Ukraine Alexander Slavis, Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management Vladimir Kholosha and Head of International Relations Directorate of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Mikhail Kamasa participated in the negotiations.

The parties discussed the issues of cooperation between Ukraine and EBRD regarding the activity of Chernobyl Shelter Fund, progress in negotiations with the contributors in relation to international projects funded from Shelter Fund assets, Nuclear Safety Account and the contributions.

Oleg Proskuryakov and Vince Novak confirmed that nowadays the highly positive dynamics and the consistency are achieved in cooperation for the purposes of Chernobyl NPP issues.

According to the results of the personnel dosimetry control averageannual exposure dose per Chernobyl NPP’s worker in 2013 was 1.98 mSv. In 2012 - 2.2 mSv.

Collective dose based on 2504 Chernobyl NPP workers in 2013 was 4956.8 m*mSv, whereas in 2012 - 5800.56 m*mSv.

First components (transporter) for the new wagon-container, which will be used for Spent Nuclear Fuel transportation from existing Spent Fuel Storage Facility (ISF-1) to the new Storage facility (ISF- 2) are delivered at Chernobyl NPP industrial site. Now to transport spent nuclear fuel Chernobyl NPP uses wagon-container procured in 1986.

Technical Specifications of the new wagon-container will allow to perform safely all Spent Fuel movement operations in full compliance with the regulatory requirements of Ukraine. "Skoda" company (Czech Republic) delivers this equipment under the signed Contract.

Assembly and installation of walls panels in places of dismantled wall panels along the axis A is started within the project "Recovery of the safe enclosure of ChNPP Unit 4 Turbine Hall between axes 46-52 and A- B".

Panels are installed instead of dismantled emergency constructions. The total area, at which it is planned to install panels, is 216 square meters. All works are carried out in accordance with a previously developed and approved schedule. Their completion is planned for the end of January 2014.

Pre-assembling of spatial unit to cover opening arisen as a result of Unit 4 Turbine hall wall constructions collapse is started.

Upon information provided by plant’s Construction service as of January 9, 2014 all necessary metal constructions were delivered to Chernobyl NPP’s industrial site, 10 percent of them are already installed in the future spatial unit. Total weight of the entire unit will be 53 tons. It should fully close an emergency opening arisen as a result of abnormal event, occurred February 12, 2013.

Work within theproject "RecoveryofthesafeenclosureofChNPPUnit 4 TurbineHallbetweenaxes 46-52 andA- B" is performedbythecontractor - "Ukrtransbud" CorporationincooperationwithChernobylNPP. Earlier, in accordance with the project schedule contracting organization personnel dismantled emergency concrete wall panels, joining constructions between the columns, as well as reinforcement of the upper damaged panels.

Crane КС–8165 with lifting capacity 100 tons was delivered to the Chernobyl NPP industrial site. It will be engaged into works on recovering the confinement of Unit 4 Turbine Hall.

This crane, along with the other two being already on the site, will be used to remove the remaining wall panels damaged as a result of the collapse in February this year. These works are of high complexity, because a direct access to the panels is blocked by metal towers erected during elimination of the accident consequences in 1986. Following the removal of the damaged panels from behind the metal towers and their bringing down on the ground, they will be fragmented and transported out for disposal at the RWDF “Buryakovka”.
