Factory acceptance test of ISF-2 important to safety equipment

Some ISF-2 Hot Cell main equipment was tested in Germany from 7th until 17th December 2015. These FAT’s of SNF processing equipment were conducted at BNG facility (subcontractor of Holtec International) and it was witnessed by SSTC NRS.

Tested equipment:

•Cutting Machine SFA (CM);

•Holder Slide (HS);

•Lifting Device for Fuel Tubes (LD FT);

•Double Lid System for Fuel Tubes (DLS FT).

•Various SFPF penetrations.

FAT of penetrations were successfully completed on 15th December.

FAT of HS, LD FT and DLS FT were successfully completed on 17th December.

CM FAT was partially completed and continued on 25th January 2016 along with FAT of other safety related equipment.

This Hot Cell equipment is classified as ISF-2 safety related equipment.

This equipment was manufactured according to technical specifications that were developed by the Contractor and preliminary approved by SNRIU in 2014. The tests were conducted according to FAT programmes that were approved in 2015.

Equipment purpose:

The Cutting Machine SFA is designed to perform separation of the upper and lower bundleof SFA by cutting the SFA central rod with a circular saw and to sever the Extension Rod.

The holder slide is designed to hold the SFA in place during cutting and to position SFA in docked fuel tube. The holder slide also aligns the SFA with Cutting Machine SFA, Double Lid System for Fuel Tube and Lifting Device for Fuel Tube. The HS also loads filter elements and auxiliary fuel tube into the fuel tube.

The double lid system for fuel tube is designed for transfer operations of fuel tube and fuel bundle and for contamination prevention during these operations.

The lifting device for fuel tube is designed for movement of empty and loaded fuel tubes vertically to the docking position of the Double Lid System FT and vice versa to the parking position. From the parking position the loaded fuel tube is moved for installation into lower puncher.

The FAT concluded that HS, DLS FT and LD FT are operable subject to incorporation of comments from the Employer and SNRIU (SSTC NRS).

Other tests were conducted from 7th until 11th December 2015. These FAT’s of SNF processing equipment were conducted at Holtec International in the USA.

•Shielding Ring;

•Alignment Rings;

•Fuel Tube Baskets;

•Storage Racks;

•Lift Yoke for HI-TRAC-H.

Equipment purpose:

The DWC Lid Grapple is designed for lifting DWC inner lid and temporary shielding to secure DWC loading operation.

The Shielding Ring is designed for lowering radiation exposure when fuel tubes are being loaded into DWC.

The Alignment Ring is designed for adequate sealing between rooms when the DWC is docked and for contamination prevention.

The Fuel Tube Basket is designed for temporary storage of empty fuel tubes when on transport cart or in storage racks.

The Storage Racks are designed for storage of fuel tube baskets with or without fuel tubes.

The Lift Yoke for HI-TRAC-H is a load-handling device permanently attached to Crane 119 and used for lifting and handling empty of full on-site transfer cask, and for lifting the CHTS (Canister Transport Handling System) skid.

The FAT concluded that this equipment is operable subject to incorporation of comments from the Employer.
