On April 6, the Chornobyl NPP was visited by the first pool of participants of a large international event – “SESAM 2021 Poliklinika” (Small European Students of Architecture Meeting).
About 40 young students and architects from Ukraine, Belarus, Ireland, Latvia, russia, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and France visited the ChNPP Main Building and the Shelter Observation Pavilion.
“The main location of this event is Slavutych. We would like to show a unique architecture of this town to the whole world. The visit to the Chornobyl NPP was organized for information purposes, but as such event is, so to say, semiprofessional and aimed at the architecture, we were very interested to find out about the New Safe Confinement and the industrial development in general by the example of ChNPP,” – commented Herman Mitish, Head of non-governmental organization “EASA Ukraine”.
The visitors were familiarized with the history of the enterprise, as well as with the work progress on the decommissioning and the Shelter transformation into an environmentally safe system.
FYI. SESAM 2021 Poliklinika (Small European Students of Architecture Meeting) is an international event organized by the Ukrainian branch of EASA (European Architecture Students Assembly) as a part of this year project “Slavutych – Ukraine’s Small Capital of Culture 2021”. The location of this event is Slavutych, a town constructed to accommodate workers of Chornobyl NPP and their families after evacuation of Prypiat caused by the accident at Unit 4 in 1986. The new town was designed not only to give a home for those who were forced to leave Prypiat, but also to treat them from their incident trauma.
“EASA Ukraine” is an independent and non-profit organization promoting informal education in the area of architecture and urban science. “EASA Ukraine” is a national representative of the EASA’s international community. Ukraine takes part in the EASA since 2006.
