In March 2023, a series of online training sessions on providing psychological first aid, psycho education and rehabilitation techniques were delivered in Slavutych – Chornobyl NPP workers’ town.

The training sessions were organized with the support of WANO Paris Center at Chornobyl NPP’s request.

During the month, practical psychologists from Slavutych listened to experts from the Center for Trauma, Crisis and Conflicts of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Participants of the course included psychologists of the Chornobyl NPP Training Center, Social and Psychological Centre of Slavutych, school psychologists and others.

It is war now in Ukraine, and in fact, all people who suffered certain negative Impacts, who are in a crisis, in a critical situation, they all need assistance. I would wish such trainings to be continued – maybe, in the form of exchange of experience, because we do have our own practical experience and theoretical knowledge, — comments Yurii Akymenko, participant of the training and Deputy Head of the Slavutych Social and Psychological Center.

The skills we are receiving would allow us – psychologists of Chornobyl NPP – applying new foreign practices when working with ChNPP personnel who endured occupation, and working ahead to prevent possible psychological trauma connected to the war with other employees of the plant, — said Tetiana Shcherbak, ChNPP Training Centre psychologist, summing up the training.
