Following the results of an international tender announced by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, a contractor has been selected to carry out the completion and installation of a 2 MW solar (photovoltaic) power plant for the SSE Chornobyl NPP. The winning company is Solar Steel Construction LLC (SOLARsk), Dnipro, Ukraine.
On 16 March 2026, the first SOLARsk team, consisting of eight workers, commenced work at the Chornobyl NPP PV installation site.
The personnel have been accommodated, placed under individual dosimetric monitoring, and provided with catering.
As of today, preparatory work on arranging the installation site has been completed, the necessary tools have been delivered, and geodetic surveying of the site is underway to determine the locations for installing the support steel structures of the PV plant, in strict accordance with the design.
“The installation of a 2 MW solar power plant at the Chornobyl NPP industrial site is not merely an environmental project; it is a matter of energy resilience and safety. Alternative energy sources enable us to meet the plant’s critical needs in the event of blackouts or damage to the grid, reduce dependence on external power lines, and ensure the uninterrupted operation of essential systems even during the most challenging wartime conditions. Furthermore, this will help reduce electricity costs, which continue to rise,” said Chornobyl NPP Director General Serhii Tarakanov.
Monitoring of the work and technical supervision are being carried out by the Chornobyl NPP Construction Department. Overall coordination of activities at the construction site is ensured by the Electrical Department.
For information: SOLARsk operates its own production facilities for manufacturing steel profiles, has already implemented a number of large-scale solar energy projects, and has participated in projects with a total installed generation capacity exceeding 3,000 MW.
