    ChNPP signed Cooperation agreement with KPI

    Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant is becoming an official training and practical base for the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" named after Igor Sikorsky.

    The corresponding agreement on dual education between ChNPP, KPI and Slavutych town was signed on 20 September 2023. From now on, students of one of the most prestigious technical universities in Ukraine will be able to get internships at ChNPP, and the necessary specialists will be trained in ChNPP satellite town of Slavutych.

    "Chornobyl NPP has accumulated vast experience, including absolutely unique experience, in overcoming the man-made accidents consequences and nuclear facilities decommissioning. We are ready to share this experience with gifted Ukrainian youth", said Serhiy Martynov, ChNPP Acting General Director.

    Issues of Spent Nuclear Fuel Management: Workshop in Slavutych

    On September 21-22, Chornobyl NPP joined the organizing and participating in the international workshop "Spent Nuclear Fuel Management".

    The event objective is professional discussion of spent nuclear fuel management and spent nuclear fuel aging management.

    Spent nuclear fuel (hereinafter referred to as SNF) is fuel elements or their groups retrieved from nuclear reactors of nuclear power plants and other facilities. The fuel is classified as spent if it is not able any longer to support the chain reaction efficiently.

    From 1977 till 2000 — when the power units generated electricity — Chornobyl NPP built up more than 21,000 fuel assemblies.

    ChNPP experts participated in IAEA workshop on radioactive material inventory tool

    From 21 till 24 August, 2023, online sessions of Technical Meeting on the Spent Fuel and Radioactive Waste Inventory Tool were held. The event was organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (hereinafter referred to as IAEA).

    The main objective of event is to introduce Member States to the IAEA’s new spent fuel and radioactive waste inventory tool. In particular, the event was dedicated to software which enables to manage and to record the data on radioactive waste during its entire life cycle – from generation to disposal.

    Chornobyl NPP was represented at this meeting by engineer Oleksandra Stelmakh from Radioactive Material Integrated Management Department.

    Head of Canadian regulatory body visited ChNPP

    On 17 August, Mrs Rumina Velshi, President of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, visited ChNPP industrial site. The visit was accompanied by representatives of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.

    The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is the body regulating the use of Nuclear Energy and Materials in Canada.

    The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate the support and solidarity of the International Community, as well as to ascertain what challenges and requirements Ukraine needs immediate help to overcome.

    ChNPP co-organized Radiation Safety Lab, the first radiation safety training in Slavutych

    On 7-11 August, the Radiation Safety Lab was held in Slavutych, a satellite town of ChNPP. The event became a platform for the experience exchange between experts in the Radiation Safety field.

    The Chornobyl NPP was a co-organiser and participant of the event, in particular, the programme included two lectures from the plant specialists. The first one was entitled "Organisation of Radiation Protection at ChNPP", where Oleksandr Novikov, Deputy Technical Director of the plant, and leading experts of the Radiation Safety Shop told about how radiation safety is ensured for personnel of one of the most complex facilities on the planet.
