    Current Status of the New Safe Confinement-Object Shelter Complex

    On March 7, 2025, the Chornobyl NPP Emergency Commission decided to complete the emergency response operations related to the February 14, 2025 incident, caused by a UAV strike and subsequent explosion at the NSC-OS complex.

    Considering the current condition of the NSC-OS complex and the radiation situation within the complex and across the Chornobyl NPP industrial site, a decision was made on March 27, 2025, to end emergency operations at the NSC-OS in accordance with emergency response plans.

    Further mitigation of the incident's consequences will be carried out in compliance with regulatory, technical, and organizational documentation requirements and procedures.

    The delegation of the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority visited the Chornobyl NPP

    On 27 March 2025, a delegation of the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) headed by Director General Per Strand visited Chornobyl NPP. The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the current state of the ChNPP and to observe the damage to the New Safe Confinement (NSC) caused by the Russian drone strike on 14 February 2025. The visit took place within the framework of the Nansen Government Programme for Ukraine aimed at supporting the nuclear safety and security of Ukraine in the context of the ongoing Russian aggression.

    Ukrainian delegation participated in the international conference on radioactive waste management and visited the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station

    The Ukrainian delegation successfully completed a working visit to the USA. During this visit the Ukrainians attended the Annual International Radioactive Waste Management Conference (WM-2025). Within individual sessions dedicated to Ukraine, the delegation presented a detailed overview of the aftermath caused by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, in particular the occupation of Exclusion Zone enterprises in 2022 and of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

    Chornobyl NPP was represented by Oleksii Miasnykov, Head of the Integrated Radioactive Materials Management Department, who replied comprehensively the attendees' questions about the situation at Chornobyl NPP. Special focus was given to the problems resulted from the temporary occupation and further threats to the safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine.

    EBRD Representatives Visit Chornobyl NPP

    On 18 March, representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) visited Chornobyl NPP industrial site. The purpose of the visit was to conduct a detailed inspection of the damage caused by the Russian drone attack on the New Safe Confinement (NSC).

    The delegation, which included senior managers of EBRD’s Nuclear Safety Department, observed the NSC technological building, main volume, and the main crane system’s northern maintenance garage. Additionally, they held a working meeting with representatives of the Chornobyl NPP management.

    Information on the status of the emergency situation elimination at the site of New Safe Confinement (NSC) and Shelter object complex as a result of a direct hit by a russian UAV into the protective shell of the NSC as of 09:00 on 07/03/2025

    1. Fire fighting Status

    1. Work is underway to identify and extinguish smoldering places with partial opening of the structures, and cut openings.

    2. A group of climbers is on standby. Work is periodically suspended due to the air raids and personnel removal.
