On December 20, 2024, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine amended the licence issued to ChNPP for the right to perform the activity related to “radioactive waste processing & storage, namely, commissioning of the Solid Waste Retrieval Facility and Solid Waste Processing Plant, Industrial Complex for Solid Radioactive Waste Management (ICSRM).
The amendments allow the Chornobyl NPP to start ICSRM industrial operation and to process solid radioactive waste accumulated during operation, generated during ChNPP decommissioning, as well as the Shelter object operational radioactive waste.
On December 14, ceremonial event was held at Chornobyl NPP site to honour those who participated in mitigation of the consequences of Chornobyl NPP accident. Annually, this day reminds us of the courage and professionalism of more than 600 thousand liquidators - servicemen, militiamen, rescuers, employees of state enterprises and institutions, who jeopardizing their lives succeeded in overcoming one of the largest man-made disasters of the 20th century.
On 24 September 2024, a technical visit to the Chornobyl NPP was conducted by representatives of the volunteer organization “Climate Friends for Nuclear Energy”. This group, together with the Norwegian organization “Ukrainian Freedom Convoy” and other civil society groups in Norway, has been actively involved for some time in raising funds to provide essential equipment and resources for the Ukrainian military.
