    From 8 to 12 July, a Technical Meeting regarding Simple Knowledge Management Systems for Nuclear Facilities Decommissioning was held in Vienna (Austria) within the framework of the International Decommissioning Network (IDN) Forum. The event was organised in cooperation with the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (EC- JRC).

    The purpose of the event was to discuss the best practices in knowledge management to support nuclear facilities decommissioning and to share experiences with IAEA Member States to improve the interoperability of existing international knowledge systems.

    The Chornobyl NPP was represented by Maksym Protsenko, Head of the Engineering Centre, who presented the report “Data Collection and Use during ChNPP Decommissioning”.

    On June 28, 2024, a delegation from the Embassy of the Czech Republic visited the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, including the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant site, which has long captured the global community’s attention due to its history and environmental challenges.

    The primary purpose of the visit was to familiarize themselves with the operations of the facility and to gather information about the region, which was under the control of Russian occupation forces. As part of the visit program, the Czech delegation toured several key locations, each of significant historical and scientific importance.

    From 11 to 12 June 2024, Chornobyl NPP employees participated in the international cybersecurity workshop held in Prague organized by the WANO Paris Centre.

    During the event, the Chornobyl NPP specialists shared their extensive experience in cybersecurity, discussed the achievements and challenges faced by the plant amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine, and actively engaged in discussions on modern approaches to protecting the facility under current conditions.

    Participants focused particularly on challenges related to supply chains and strategies for enhancing emergency preparedness.

    It has been two years since the Chornobyl NPP switched to a rotational work schedule. During this time, the plant’s management has been actively working on improving the conditions in the inter-shift rest areas (dormitories) for personnel.

    In May 2024, ChNPP began renovation work using its own resources in one of the dormitories where ChNPP personnel stay. The renovation includes reconfiguring rooms into single and double occupancy to prioritize creating comfortable living conditions and reducing the number of people per room. Additionally, the work involves repairing walls and ceilings, including plastering and painting, replacing door units, updating electrical wiring, and planned work on flooring replacement. Improvements are also being made to the condition of showers and common areas.

    On June 05, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law On Ratification of Framework Agreement between the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Regarding the International Chernobyl Cooperation Account.

    Ratification of the Framework Agreement will enable to create a mechanism for managing the activities of the International Chernobyl Cooperation Account (ICCA) and to give grants to Ukraine for support and funding of nuclear and radiation safety projects at Chornobyl NPP site and in Exclusion Zone. It is also important that these projects will be focused on recovering the damage caused by the invasion of armed forces of the russian federation, namely on restoring the safe conditions at ChNPP, in the Exclusion Zone, as well as at other nuclear installations and radioactive waste management facilities in Ukraine.
